Labour has selected Richard Layton as its candidate for the vacant county council seat in Sulien Ward, Llanbadarn Fawr, Ceredigion.

Richard said: “I am very proud to have been given the opportunity to represent Llanbadarn Sulien ward for Welsh Labour. I spent a lot of time in Llanbadarn as a teenager, and over the years I have seen it change from farmers’ fields and a small village to the much larger community today.

“Labour is the party of working people and Llanbadarn is a community of workers, of people who want to live decent, honest lives and enjoy their time in their homes and community. Sulien ward faces massive traffic problems, savage cuts inflicted on its excellent sports centre by the Plaid council, and eye-watering house prices. I want to be a positive voice for the ward.

“I live with my family near Borth, although I have lived in Llanbadarn. I work as a lab technician on the industrial estate. I’m a member of Unite the Union. I am definitely not a career politician.

“Labour is for the many, and I am going to fight for the many workers, carers, children and elderly who all go to make up this amazing village.”

The byelection will be held on Thursday 18 July.
